Are Airsoft Silencers legal in this country? Do they actually silence, or are they just there to look good?

It's not the same as real weapons were you need a licence for the silencer as well as the rifle, airsoft ones are mainly for looks as most of the noise comes from the gear box i do believe, correct me if i'm wrong.

Silencers are perfectly legal. Most are for the looks, but some work as silencers, some are barrel extensions, and some are tracer units.

On MAC10s that you can buy, you get a silencer that is literally bigger than the gun itself, but it really is silent. The size of the gearbox means it makes very little sound and the silencer stops further noise from the barrel. Its seriously cool,

i still feel the need to point out that theyre suppressors.

unlike real suppressors airsoft suppressors generally use foam to absorb the energy much like you might see in a recording studio, real deal suppressors generally have air spaces for gases to expand in, reducing report, seperated by rings of material called baffles which help slow the ammunition and can leave additional striations on bullets. this means the two arent ussually compatible with the other's use, and thus are legal in many places where even real deal suppressors are not, due to the build and contents being pretty much useless to a real shooter.

also i wouldnt reccomend pouring water into airsoft suppressors like you might to real one, generally ends up as a soggy mess.

either is acceptable but british law refers to them as suppressors.

also moderator can cause confusion as it can also apply to conventional flash hiders which contain a gas expansion chamber much like that on the XM177 or AKS-74U, suppressor is specific to the multiple baffle design most commonly used.
