Default Target retrieval systems ??

Basically I have been hunting arround the net looking for an affordable target retrieval system for a little indoor shooting range.
All the stuff i have found is highly expensive electric retrieval systems. I remember you used to get the manual pully/cable system that you stick your target on to and wound out with a pully wheel. Does anyone know where I could get such a pully system??????

Guess you could make one. As you say, progress has made everything overly high tech these days

There isn't really anything to make as far as I can imagine. 2 pulleys at either end of the room, some paracord to run through them, a curtain tie up at wrap the excess around and a third pulley with a bulldog clip stuck to it to act as the target carrier. Try googling manual target retrieval system and look on the images part as well. I think you will find that it's easier than you think.

Or train a dog

Hardware places such as B&Q might have pulleys installed on brackets ready made to mount on the wall etc.

Just like the guys said, 2 pulleys and a length of washing line even. Nice and cheap. sling it between the 2 and tie a knot or fuse the ends if you have a hot iron or a crimpers. Essentially, rig up a washing line just pull/push the target to and from you. I've one in my back garden that actually doubles as the washing line haha.

im looking at a distance of 25mt max though so droop/slop might become an issue.
My google search revealed 1 commercial manual pully system for the purpose at a whopping $675 per lane from the US of A.

you could do it with a rigid track but it comes down to how permanent you want it to be, and how much effort you want to go into making one. you could do one with some 1 or 2" galv steel conduit and a motor & wheels etc from a RC hobbyist shop. Might not even need the motor if you make a rig & trolley with some wheels and a pulley system. Just place the trunking on the ground, connect it up and let the trolley sit in it with your target and pull/push it along.

Or just glue or bolt a target from to the top of an RC car and just drive it out as far as you can....

Now looking at pully type washing lines to see if it might do the distance.
Its going to be a permanent fixture.

It's not technical in the slightest man, i've had k-nex sets more detailed.

The simplest option would be to put a trolley or frame on some rails and use a 2 way pulley system to manoeuvre it back or fourth. Look up some plans online if you get stuck for ideas.

no doubt you'll have a mate who's able to do this stuff in his sleep, we all do.

Edit; Scrap that.

Check out these http://www.ironmongeryonline.com/pro...---Black/1742/

Two of these linked to a crank would do for an above head unit

EBay currently has pulleys for sale for buttons, less than hardware stores anyway.

Seen those. Thinking about the cable now to get the right length with the minimal slop.

thats why you want to use paracord. it doesnt stretch too much and by using a third pully to tension it you should have a nice tight rope. if you rig it right, every 1 pull on the pully will result in the target traveling twice the distance. or just use 2 and wrap it tight around the tie off.

there shouldnt be much droop anyway as the target thats fixed to the line has to rise up to where the second pully at the other end is. so you may have some droop in the centre but as the line travels and sits up against the furthest pully it will end up the same height.

all you need to worry about now is how to stop the target plapping around.

2 of the pullies above and some paracord will work nicely. i think a tray system wouldnt look very nice in the garden and i thing steel cable would be too heavy and expensive.

washing line stretches and the coating breaks down overtime. i think webtex sell rolls of paracord for not too much and i think thats the most inconspicuous and simplest way to go, and its certainly the way i would do it in future.

there is another configuration. have one tight line from A to B then set a moving pully on top of that line that holds the target. attach one line to the front and one to the rare going around another pully at point B and you can pull one line to send the target out to point B and the other line to reteave it to point A.

Sash cord is a waxed cord that Dosnt stretch and is fairly weatherproof . Washing line is crap unless you get the top end stuff . But then you are not putting any weight on it as such so shouldn't have a reason to stretch v much

or create a fixed track with rails for the target to slide through and attach it to a pushbike chain between 2 gears, with 1 end having either a small electric motor or a hand crank.

If all else fails you could use a curtain rail and a long stick..

But seriously 2 pulleys and abit off cord and your away.

Sorry, but Stevey's post just amused me Such an obvious answer - doesn't help the OP's request, but I guess it's what most of us do.
